Seth and Audrey Kitzke started Upsidedown in 2014, and the name comes from Seth's snowboarding days. Which tells you something about the spirit here. This is a genuine field blend, Grenache-led at 80% with Syrah, Mourvèdre and a splash of Viognier and Roussanne along for the ride, raised 20 months in Austrian foudre and French 300-liter barrels. Big, neutral vessels that build texture without stamping the wine with oak. Grenache with the volume up and the makeup off.

About the Producer
Upsidedown Wine was founded in 2014 by Seth and Audrey Kitzke, a husband-and-wife team from the Tri-Cities area of Washington. Seth, who grew up near the state's wine country, began making wine in 2016 while working at another Woodinville winery. The name Upsidedown is a nod to Seth's snowboarding days — a hint at the couple's willingness to flip convention on its head.
The winery specializes in Rhône varietals — Grenache, Roussanne, Syrah, and friends — sourced from Red Mountain in Eastern Washington, one of the state's most prestigious AVAs. Their wines are made in miniscule production and allocated primarily to club members and mailing list. Clive Pursehouse of Decanter Magazine called Seth's Grenache and Roussanne "among the best I have tasted from the States."
After opening their first tasting room in Hood River, Oregon in 2018, the Kitzkes added a second location in Cle Elum, Washington in 2022 — closer to their CWU alma mater and the west side of the state.
