Monção and Melgaço sits high and inland in Vinho Verde, and this Alvarinho comes off small hand-selected parcels of granite at around 400 meters. Altitude enough that the grape's usual tropical swagger gives way to acidity and mineral tension, with vine roots digging deep into mountain slope for whatever they can find. Bright lemon-yellow, crisp and dry, with a persistent, stony, faintly earthy palate and a real sensation of saltiness. That's granite talking, and it isn't subtle about it.
