Vecchie Vigne comes off the oldest blocks Siro Pacenti farms. 40 to 60 year old vines split between sandy, clay-laced Pelagrilli, the original 1970 purchase, and the pebbly, mineral-rich Piancornello in Montalcino's southeast. Multiple passes of berry selection before and after destemming means only the fruit that earned its place made it in, and it shows: ruby red, black cherry and violet with a lavender lift, dense and powerful through the mid-palate but strung on vibrant acidity. This is what old vines actually taste like. Depth without weight, and a finish that just keeps going.
Winemaker Notes
As its name suggests, Vecchie Vigne arises from the historic sections of the Pelagrilli and Piancornello vineyards. It is sourced from vines aged 40-60 years in both the Pelagrilli vineyard and the Piancornello vineyard in Montalcino’s southeast. Berries are selected in multiple passes, before and after destemming, through an optical sorter. The wine is aged in custom-made French barriques for 24 months followed by two months in concrete and a final 22 months matured in the bottle. Vecchie Vigne is precise, pronounced, dense, and balanced, this is convincing old-vine Sangiovese.

It’s compact and full of electric energy within a full-bodied frame, and it has loads of saltiness and bright acidity, with well-defined tannins and persistent, focused length and drive. It’s long on the palate, with a spiced and mouthwatering finish with a char

It feels wonderfully elegant and polished, with sleek red berry fruits underscored by crisp mineral tones and a hint of citrus, all guided by vibrant acidity. The wine is long and staining yet remarkably fres

Aged in barrique, the wine is built from an intriguing blend of fruit, with half drawn from mineral-rich rocky soils at 150 meters in elevation in the southern sector and half from

Wine SpectatorA darker expression of the vintage, this red sports black cherry, blackberry, iron, tar and tobacco aromas and flavors. Dense and muscular, yet with vibrant acidity that keeps this long and focused. The tannins are resonant, and the lasting impression is of sweet fruit. Best from 2026 through 2042. 1,700 cases made, 480 cases imported.
