Schlossgut Diel farms across a patchwork of Nahe sites, stone, gravel, slate, quartz, and that geological jumble is the whole point: no single soil dominates, so the wine reads as a composite rather than a signature. Fermented and raised entirely in stainless steel, the 2020 keeps its Riesling wired tight, all cut and clarity through the mid-palate with nothing padding the edges. This is the Nahe doing what it does best. Minerality you can taste, not just talk about.

The Schlossgut Diel vineyards, castle and winery are of great historical significance. The winery was purchased by the Diel family in 1802 from Baron Dalberg, who had managed to prevent its confiscation by Napoleon’s troops in 1789. Today, the proprietor and wine maker is Caroline Diel. Diel’s offerings are a study in both terroir and differences in intensity achieved at various levels of ripeness.
