Rocca di Frassinello is what happens when Castellare di Castellina and the Rothschilds of Château Lafite decide to plant a flag in the Tuscan Maremma together. The winery opened in 2007, and the ambition hasn't dimmed. The 2016 leads with plum and chocolate, then spice and herbs come up on their own, unforced, before a clean mineral line draws out the finish. Sangiovese with a French accent, and it wears both halves well.
Tasting Notes
Plums, chocolate, spices and herbs emerge spontaneously. Clean mineral notes outline the finish and confer an attractive element of freshness. Poggio alla Guardia pairs well with roasted meats, stews and mature cheeses.
About the Producer
Inaugurated in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma on June 30, 2007, the Rocca di Frassinello winery was born as a joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Château Lafite, an unmistakable name in the greatest wines of France and of the world. A project in the center of Maremma, between Bolgheri and Montalcino, that benefits from the dually celebrated oenological experience of both partners.
