Roagna farms the Langhe naturally, and this white, Chardonnay with Nebbiolo, hand-picked in September, comes off chalky limestone, clay, and marlstone, the same bones that make the region's reds worth arguing about. Soft-pressed off the skins, fermented in wood, then 21 to 22 months in large neutral French oak: all texture and structure, no makeup. Chalk and mid-palate weight in equal measure. Nobody's hiding it under vanilla.

Winemaker Notes

Viticulture: Grapes are harvested by hand in September. Vinification: After a soft pressing the must is separated from the skins and is then fermented in wood casks. Aging: Aged in large, neutral french oak for 21-22 months. Vineyard: 60% of the grapes assigned to the production of this wine come from the vineyards within the area of Rocche di Castiglione Falletto from Cascina Pira, the remaining from Barbaresco area. Orientation: Varying.
