Grattamacco was one of the first two wineries in Bolgheri, founded in 1977 and in the hands of the Tipa Bertarelli family since 2002. Long enough to have opinions about what this stretch of Tuscan coast should taste like. In a region that runs on Cabernet and Merlot, they fold in 15% Sangiovese, which is the whole trick: it pulls the blend toward elegance rather than sheer weight, giving the mid-palate lift and a firmer line of structure. Bolgheri with an Italian accent, not a Bordeaux impression.
