Pecchenino is still a family operation. Brothers Orlando and Attilio running the estate their grandfather built, farming sustainably. The 2019 pours garnet and opens rich and deep: hay, violet, tobacco, white pepper, wild mint, licorice. Robust through the mid-palate with dense but silky tannins and a taut, mineral finish. This is Barolo doing exactly what Barolo is supposed to do.
Tasting Notes
Garnet red color. The nose is rich and deep. You can perceive notes of hay, violet, tobacco, white pepper, wild mint and liquorice. Robust on the palate, with a taut, mineral finish. The tannins are dense but silky and well balanced. Barolo Le Coste di Monforte should be paired with fresh Piedmontese pasta with truffle or meat sauce, roasted red meats, braised meats, and long-aged cheeses.

Jeb DunnuckMedium brick red-colored, the 2019 Barolo Riserva Le Coste di Monforte is spicy and sanguine on the nose, with notes of blood orange peel, tangy cranberries, lifted spice, and wild herbs. Medium-bodied, it has good focus and linear drive, with refined tannins, bright, ripe acidity, a mouthwatering, refreshing feel, and good length. It gently tapers and is a very appealing Riserva to enjoy over the next 10-15 years.
About the Producer
The Pecchenino winery has always been at its core, a family business. Currently the winery is run by Orlando and Attilio Pecchenino, the grandchildren of Attilio Pecchenino.
The first documentation of winemaking activity during the end of the 20th century, when the winery, managed by their grandfather Attilio, had little more than 8 hectares. In the 1970s, the reins of the winery passed into the hands of his son Marino and later, at the end of the 1980s in line with the generational changeover, his sons Orlando and Attilio took over the business.
