Camp Gros is six acres on the eastern flank of Martinenga, Marchesi di Gresy's slice of Barbaresco sitting just below Rabajà with a south-southwest tilt. Fruit that disappeared into the estate's Martinenga bottling until 1978, when someone decided it deserved its own name. Organically farmed Nebbiolo, garnet going orange at the rim, all violet and wild wood berries with strawberry and sour black cherry jam underneath. This is Barbaresco showing you exactly where it grew.

Winemaker Notes

In the heart of Barbaresco commune, Camp Gros is a 6-acre parcel on the eastern side within the Martinenga vineyard. Sitting right below Rabajà, it has a south- southwest exposure at an altitude from 240m to 290m a.s.l. Originally, the grapes from this area went into Martinenga Barbaresco, but with the 1978 vintage, it was bottled separately. A world-class wine, it was elevated to Riserva status with the 2010 vintage, with extended aging.

Tasting Notes

Garnet red with orange reflections. Reminescent of violet, wild wood berries, strawberries and sour black cherry jam.

This red combines a vibrant structure with pure fruit, elegance and intensity. Cherry, strawberry, licorice, wild herb, mineral and tobacco flavors align with the supple texture, while fine-grained tannins emerge midpalate and build to the long, spirited finish. Best from 2026 through 2046.

The 2018 Barbaresco Riserva Martinenga Camp Gros is a very pretty wine, and also a Camp Gros that will drink well upon release. It shows good freshness, but also the smaller scaled style of the year. Dark red fruit, rose petal, mint, blood orange, cedar and spice. This is a very pretty wine, but it does not have the body or dark balsamic profile that are the signatures of Camp Gros in its strongest years.
