Larmandier-Bernier's Latitude takes its name honestly: all Chardonnay, all from the same band of the southern end of Vertus, ground that was historically given over to Pinot Noir. Biodynamic farming and hand harvesting on chalk and limestone under a deeper layer of clay topsoil. Generous terroir, and the wine wears that generosity without losing the chalk underneath. This used to be called Tradition; the name changed, the address didn't.
Tasting Notes
Previously, this cuvée was called "Tradition", a name that was chosen in the 1970’s by Pierre’s parents. The new name Latitude was selected since the wine is composed exclusively of Chardonnays originating from the same latitude: the south of Vertus, where Pinot noir was historically planted. This is a generous terroir resulting in a round, rich, charming style, which still retains the characteristic pureness of the estate’s Champagnes. Pierre believes the wine posseses "pinot-like" characteristics such as red fruit flavors and bredth on the palate -- despite it being 100% Chardonnay which he attributes to this unique terroir.

VinousThe NV (2022) Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude 1er Cru is stellar in this range. Broad and ample, the Latitude is so impressive. Lemon confit, marzipan, tangerine peel, mint and chalk are dialed up. More than anything else, I am so impressed with the wine's sheer palate presence. There's gorgeous density and character here. This release is based on 2022, with the addition of 40% reserve wines.

Wine AdvocateThe latest rendition of NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude is excellent, offering up aromas of lemon oil, wet stones and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, bright and precise, with good concentration, racy acids, an ultra-fine mousse and a long, chalky finish. As usual, this is a classy introduction to the Larmandier-Bernier range.
