Kopke has been shipping wine out of Portugal since 1638, which makes this the oldest name in the Douro. And the fruit still comes off steep terraces at 600 meters, hand-picked from horizontal rows planted in schist and sandstone. Touriga Nacional leads a blend of traditional Douro reds, fortified to 19.5% and aged a minimum of three years before it's bottled as Fine Port. Dark, warm, and built to last the whole conversation. Nearly four centuries of practice in a small glass.

About the Producer

Kopke’s path as a winegrower is entwined with the history of its location. A journey in 1636 between Hamburg and Portugal is the beginning of a long story: Nicolau Kopkë settled in Portugal as Consul General of the Hanseatic League. Two years later, in 1638, the first bottles of wine were shipped to Northern Europe. In 1781, after purchasing a farm in the Douro, they transitioned from a wine-buying company to a major producer.
