Named for Silène, Bacchus's companion, this Syrah comes off hillside parcels in Larnage and Gervans. Including granite sites rare for the appellation, which is where the aromatic lift and finesse come from. Fifteen to eighteen months in large casks, so the oak stays in the background and the fruit and structure do the talking. Jean-Louis Chave has spent three decades reclaiming abandoned hillsides in the Northern Rhône; this is that obsession at a glass price.
