The 746 is the new release for Jacquesson's 2023 'Programme,' as they call it. Jacquesson is one of the oldest Champagne houses in Dizy and, for what it's worth, received a gold medal from Napoleon Bonaparte for the quality of their cellar some 200+ years ago. The Jacquesson name experienced a slight decline after the death of Adolphe Jacquesson, and it was not until Jean Chiquet bought it in 1974 that the name began to come back to its former glory. The Chiquet family revitalized the House, utilizing more Grand Cru grapes, oak barrels for complexity, and overall more scrutiny over the quality of the Champagne produced. Jacquesson now makes a new Cuvee every year, which they label sequentially with a number, this year's being 746. The base vintage here is from 2018 and contains grapes sourced from Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers (68%), Avize, and Oiry (32%), along with a splash of one of the oldest reserve wine collections in Champagne that has been used for over 700 Cuvees.

About the Producer

Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most venerable houses, not only predating Krug, but giving birth to it, when in 1843 Johann-Joseph Krug left Jacquesson to form his own house. But despite more than 200 years of history, Jacquesson has become a revolutionary among Champagne ’ s established houses, under the leadership of brothers Laurent and Jean-Hervé Chiquet, who took over from their father in the 1980 ’ s. Since then, the house has adopted a herbicide-free, terroir -based philosophy.
