Rose and violet lift off the glass, grounded in that telltale vineyard dust and menthol that marks serious Nebbiolo; the palate is all juicy red cherry and structure, precise and full-bodied without heaviness. Fourth-generation Mascarello, one of Barolo's greatest houses, turns out wine that reminds you why this region matters.

Winemaker Notes

Viticulture: Hand harvested towards the middle of October. Estate-grown bunches thinned during the summer undergo traditional-style, floating cap fermentation for 20/25 days. Vinification: Estate-grown bunches thinned during the summer undergo traditional-style, floating cap fermentation for 20/25 days. Aging: The wine is then matured in medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels for around 38 months. Vineyard: The Mauro Mascarello family MONPRIVATO vineyard is located in the village of Castiglione Falletto, and is a classic prime medium-hillside site stretching over six hectares (15 acres) at 280 metres above sea level, in the heart of the Barolo wine-growing area. It is historic vineyard, as is confirmed by old land registry archives dating back to 1666. Orientation: Southwest.

Tasting Notes

You can lose yourself just in the aromas of this drop-dead gorgeous wine, thanks to a lovely bouquet that recalls rose, violet, vineyard dust, licorice and menthol. Boasting a winning combination of structure and finesse, the precise, full-bodied palate features juicy red cherry, raspberry, tobacco and white pepper alongside noble, enveloping tannins. It's impeccably balanced, with fresh acidity. Drink 2025–2035. Kerin O’Keefe
