Cornas has always been about slope, and Vincent Paris named this one "60" after the gradient he farms. Granite at 300 meters, pitched steep enough that the number is a warning as much as a label. Four bunches per vine instead of the usual five to seven, a third whole cluster fermented cool, two-thirds of it in barrel: concentration built in the vineyard rather than bullied in later. Dark, granite-driven Syrah with tannin that has somewhere to go. This is what the northern Rhône tastes like when nobody's softening the edges.

Winemaker Notes

Viticulture: Prunes to only four bunches of grapes per vine (the norm is between five and seven) which concentrates the vines' growing power and cuts down on the need for green harvests. Vinification: Ferments 33% whole cluster at low temps, vinfies 2/3 in barrel and 1/3 in tank. Aging: Oak barrels for up to 12 months. Production: Limited. Vineyard: From older vines planted on a gradient slope of 60 degrees. Orientation: Southeast-facing slope.

Tasting Notes

The name of this wine, "60", references the gradient slope of the vineyard.

The 2D23 Cornas Granit 60 unveils early notes of pronounced orange blossom, fresh violets, stems, pencil shavings and black cherry compote. Touching the medium-bodied palate with lifting vivacity, the 2023 is an outright delicious Cornas Granit 60 that won't take much time to start showing its full potential.
