Winemaker Notes

The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed. After cold settling, the claried must ferments at a controlled temperature, between 16 and 18°. The wine is then kept in traditional vats until it is bottled.

About the Producer

Domaine Saint-Galet traces its origins back to the early 20th Century when the owner’s grandparents worked the vineyards within an exceptional terroir – perfect for making Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In 1936, the appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape was created to showcase this much-admired wine of the Southern Rhone region. Domaine Saint-Galet is produced by the world-famous winemaker, Eric Bonnet. Eric is a co-owner with his father of La Bastide Saint Dominique. The winery still follows traditional practices, including manual harvesting, double sorting, and the use of French oak foudre (large casks), as well as stainless steel tanks, to best highlight the elegance of the fruit. Then, the wine is expertly blended from Shiraz/Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre grapes. Respected for its merger of power and grace, Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine is envied for its fruit intensity and garrigue, (a savory mix of lavender, juniper, thyme, rosemary, and sage). The name itself translates as “the Pope’s new castle,” and refers both to the appellation and the style of the wine.
