Domaine des Comtes Lafon has been a Lafon family concern since 1865, and these 3.78 hectares, first assembled by Jules Lafon, great-grandfather of Dominique, hold vines planted across six decades, from 1944 through 2002. The soils are clay-rich but shallow over hard limestone bedrock, and you can taste that tension: dark in color, deep and rich on the mid-palate, with tannins that make themselves known. Red Burgundy from a house better known for its whites, and it doesn't play small.
