Christophe Baron came from Champagne, not the Rhône, and found his life's work in a stretch of the Walla Walla Valley littered with cobblestones. Silty loam and basalt over a compacted stone bed, farmed biodynamically. This is 100% Syrah at 13.6%, aged eighteen months in only 15-20% new French oak, so the site does the talking rather than the barrel. Stones, not vanilla. That's the whole point.
