Christophe Baron came from Champagne, found a cobblestone-strewn stretch on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley, and planted Coccinelle, "ladybug", in 1998; the biodynamic farming has been the constant ever since. Eighteen months in barrel with only 15–20% new French oak means the wood is a frame, not a filter, leaving the Syrah's savory mid-palate and fine-grained tannin to carry the weight. Five hundred sixteen cases of the most compelling Syrah made outside France, grown twenty minutes from where you're sitting.
