Benanti Etna Rosso 2023

The Benanti family has been making wine in Viagrande since the late 1800s, though the winery proper dates to 1988. Etna is "an island within the island," and they work only native grapes to prove it. This organically farmed blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio pours pale ruby with an almost ethereal nose of red fruit, then turns dry and mineral across the mid-palate with real saline grip and lively acidity. Volcanic soil doesn't whisper. It makes itself known.
