The Szigeti brothers took over the family business in Gols in 1991 and helped kick off Austria's serious Sekt movement. Traditional method, no shortcuts, back when almost nobody outside the country was paying attention. This 2016 Pinot Noir rosé pours a brilliant salmon with red-gold highlights, all strawberry and red cherry, closing on lively acidity and a mousse fine enough to feel deliberate. Austria makes real sparkling wine, and this is the proof.

About the Producer

Szigeti (pronounced ZIG-it-ee) was part of the new wave of Austrian sparkling wine producers in the 1990s who focused on high-quality, traditional method Sekt. The company began in 1991 when brothers Peter and Norbert Szigeti took over the family business in the village of Gols. Norbert trained in enology and worked in a large sparkling wine firm in Vienna, while Peter completed hotel management school and worked both in Austria and abroad.
