Hillick & Hobbs' 2021 Riesling from Seneca Lake's slate-rich western slopes is bright and focused. The result of glacial soils and October warmth that ripened hand-picked fruit despite a cool spring. Minerality and energy define the glass: this is Riesling that lets the terroir speak.
Tasting Notes
Steep, slate-rich slopes on Seneca Lake’s western edge helped protect vines from May frost, limiting damage to 10–15%. Despite a cool spring and humid summer, October warmth ripened fruit beautifully. Harvest began October 5, yielding bright, focused, and energetic wines from balanced, hand-picked clusters grown on glacial soils. We are vigilant in our stewardship of the land and engaged in labor-intensive, hand-farming methods year-round to grow fruit to the highest quality. The up to 55-degree gradient requires specialized equipment and erosion prevention measures such as no tilling or exposed soils and year-round cover crop. Hillick & Hobbs Estate is certified under New York Sustainable Winegrowing.
