Campo alle Comete Bolgheri Superiore 2015

Lovely freshness and brightness with currant bush and hints of lemongrass and fresh basil. Full-bodied and focused with firm and polished tannins. Half cabernet sauvignon and half cabernet franc. Drink now or hold.

Pouring a bright purple/red color the 2021 Torre Alle Comete is juicy and forward in the glass with aromas of candied mixed berries, violets, sweet herbs, and vanilla. The palate is appealing and full without feeling heavy, and it offers even, ripe acidity, refined, velvety tannins, and a delicate savoriness on the finish. It’s a highly charming wine at this young stage, and I expect it will have the structure to retain its freshness over the coming 10-15 years. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a new wine from Campo alle Comete (in a medium-heavy bottle, with only 6,000 made). The 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Torre alle Comete has a creamy note of cheese rind that cedes to inky dark fruit, blackberry, popcorn and strawberry cobbler. There is a slightly cooked note to this wine that comes from the vintage, followed by soft and sweet tannins over full-bodied texture. The wine is nicely buttoned up and balanced overall, and lengthy too.

This is a complex red, sporting black currant, blackberry, plum, chocolate, vanilla and herbaceous flavors. Vibrant and well-defined, with a line of dusty tannins on the finish. There's plenty going on; this just needs another year or two of aging. Shows excellent balance and length. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2037.
