Marqués de Murrieta is Rioja aristocracy, and this 2012 blend of Tempranillo and Mazuelo carries itself accordingly. Black cherry and ripe plum up front, with tea leaf, cedar, Mediterranean herbs and dried flowers layered underneath. The mid-palate is deep and well-framed, tannins polished rather than sanded down, finishing long and full of nuance. This is what Rioja tastes like when it isn't in a hurry.
