Selvapiana, located in the heart of the Chianti Rufina area of Tuscany, was founded by the Giuntini family in 1827, and is managed today by Silvia and Federico Giuntini Masseti. It is a typical Tuscan estate consisting of the owner's villa, cellars and other historic buildings — now no longer used — including an oil mill, granary and joiner's workshop.

About the Producer

In 1716, the Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici issued a bando (decree) that specified which parts of his realm were suitable for producing his region's most renowned wines. Among the four areas was the Pomino, which at the time included what is today Chianti Rùfina. Thus, along with Chianti Classico, Carmignano, and Val d'Arno di Sopra, Chianti Rúfina was defined in the world's earliest-known denomination protection law.
