GRAPES: 100% Sangiovese REGION: Tuscany VINEYARD LOCATION: From vineyards located east of the town of Montalcino VINEYARD SIZE: 17 acres EXPOSURE: East/Northeast ALTITUDE: 980-1,480 feet (286-451 meters) above sea level SOIL: Stone and clay, Galestro, some tufo VINE TRAINING: Spur-pruned cordon YEARS PLANTED: 20-30 years VINE DENSITY: 2,024 vines per acre TIME OF HARVEST: Late September TOTAL PRODUCTION: 35,000 bottles VINIFICATION PROCESS: Undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation and maceration sur lie for an average of 20 days. AGING PROCESS: Ages two to three months in steel and 24 to 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels (30-45 hl) and Allier oak tonneaux (5-7.5 hl). Six months in bottle. WINEMAKER COMMENTS: A beautiful vintage, classic and fresh, with bold cherry aromas, excellent acidity, round silky tannins and lasting finesse. WINEMAKER: Paolo Vagaggini TASTING NOTES: Intense and classic color, ruby in the center and garnet red around the edges. The nose features rose, orange zest, cherry, spice, and licorice followed by sage, mint, and sandalwood. An impactful and enveloping palate, with the incredible backbone of fresh acidity you can expect from top Sangiovese grapes and rich and elegant tannins. Lovely layers of flavors like coffee, pomegranate, cherry jam, and wild strawberries linger. CELLARING: 10-20 years
