Giacomo Conterno's Barbera d'Alba spends two years in large oak, emerging with the generous mid-palate structure that makes Barbera worth seeking out at this price. Dark cherry and earth, no oak masking the grape's natural grip. This is what happens when you let the terroir and the wood work together without one drowning the other.

Winemaker Notes

Viticulture: Hand-harvested. Planted in 1974. Vinification: Long and traditional fermentation at about 30 degrees celsius in wooden vats lasting around two weeks. Aging: Aged for two years in large oak barrels followed by time in the bottle before release. Production: Average annual production of around 13,000 bottles. Vineyard: Francia vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba. Orientation: West
