Professional Ratings

94 Wine Spectator

This red is broad-shouldered and boasts cherry, plum, menthol, iron and earth flavors. Its tannins are dense yet well-integrated, while the finish picks up a hint of licorice as this winds down.

92 James Suckling

Made in a slightly reductive style, this is smoky and floral with a strong rose aroma, peach tea and sweet spices. Medium-bodied, it has firm yet light-framed tannins and crisp acidity. Chewy finish. Drinkable now but best from 2026

90 Jeb Dunnuck

Bright ruby color, the 2022 Barbaresco is a floral and fruity wine with a more immediate appeal in its notes of candied berries, fresh perfume, herbes de Provence, and strawberries. Elegant and mid-weight, it has a weightless feel, with fine tannins and a gently tapered, more modest finish. It’s an understated style to enjoy over the next 6-7 years. bright ruby color, the 2022 Barbaresco is a flor

About the Producer

The history of the Massolinos and their wine became entwined with the history of Serralunga d’Alba in 1896, when Giovanni Massolino founded the estate. An enterprising, tenacious, and creative man, Giovanni was the very first person to bring electricity to the village. Giovanni’s son, Giuseppe, built Massolino’s first wine cellar, extended the estate into the best soils, and in 1934 founded the Consortium for the Defence of Barolo and Barbaresco.
