Few vine growers cultivate Pinot Meunier on premier cru land; fewer still on terroir that is essentially an extension of the noble Montaigne de Reims. A spicy, subtle yet enchanting wine.

Professional Ratings

94 Wine Spectator

"Bright and deeply golden in color, with a rich nose of roasted nut and a fine, pointillist bead carrying notes of dried raspberry, white truffle, quince paste, chamomile and oyster shell. Soft orange peel acidity and a tang of salinity keep this fresh on the palate and drive the long, creamy finish. Reminiscent of Spain's Vina Gravonia Rioja Blanco, but with bubbles. Disgorged November 2021. 75 cases imported. - AN"

94 James Suckling

"Fresh style with purity of fruit yet not without complexity. Red apples and strawberries with spicy redcurrants, walnuts and chalk. Fine mousse. Vinous on the palate, showing oranges, ginger, crisp acidity and a polished finish with a touch of minerals. Good substance and balance. 100% pinot meunier. Drink upon release."

93 Decanter

"This cuvée is always such a clear-eyed picture of snappy, fragrant Meunier full of just-ripe apricot, fresh almonds and an almost citric focus on the palate. Based on the 2019 vintage with reserves from 2018 and 2017, there's plenty of fleshy orange ripeness from these two years, but not an inch of fat. This needs at least six months post-disgorgement to really come out of itself. A 100% Meunier from the village of Vrigny in the Petite Montagne de Reims. No oak."

93 Jeb Dunnuck

"The NV Champagne Premier Cru Les Vignes De Vrigny Extra Brut (100% Meunier with a 2021 base) is a bright straw color, and the nose is very pure. I love this vintage, which has focus and refinement, with a fine texture, refreshing acidity, and a clean lift on the finish. Medium-bodied, it has a fine mousse, hints of white grapefruit citrus, and a mineral-textured finish."

91 Vinous

"The NV (2019) Extra Brut Les Vignes di Vrigny is a pretty intense, racy Champagne that very much reflects the intense solar nature of the growing season. Meunier is amplified beautifully here, its richness only tempered by the decision to keep dosage low. Hints of pear, hazelnut, dried citrus peel, spice and chamomile emerge with air. I would be tempted to cellar this for a year or two. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2023."

91 Wine Advocate

"Issuing from four parcels planted with Pinot Meunier in 1970 and vinified entirely in tank, Egly's latest release of the NV Les Vignes de Vrigny is based on the 2020 vintage and incorporates 50% reserve wines (from 2019 and 2018). Offering up an expressive bouquet of pear, rye bread and red cherry, it is medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and fruit-forward, with ripe but racy acidity and an expansive finish. It was disgorged in October 2024 with one gram per liter dosage."

About the Producer

“No winemaker in Champagne is more precise or meticulous, from vineyard to cellar.” “Make no mistake about it, [Egly-Ouriet] is at the very top of the pecking order in Champagne today.” Francis Egly is the fourth generation of the Egly family to make wines from their exceptionally located, old vine vineyards in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay (home to some of the greatest Pinot Noir that can be found in all of Champagne), where he is considered the finest grower.
