Intensely aromatic Gigondas with a palate that balances lush fruit against a precise mineral spine. Provençal herbs, pepper, and garrigue weave through well-integrated tannins that add rather than dominate. Organic farming and the precision of the winemaking make this a classic expression of its place, a wine that tastes like it knows exactly what it is.
Winemaker Notes
An exceptional, high-character Gigondas. Look for an intensely aromatic bouquet and a palate that is both lush and precise, showcasing a harmonious blend of classic Provençal herbs, pepper, and garrigue. The tannins are evident but well-integrated, adding to its charm.
About the Producer
St. Damien was an early Christian saint martyred in the year 287 A.D.. Later he was considered the patron saint of doctors. There was a chapel dedicated to his honor in the tiny hamlet of La Baumette, just outside the village of Gigondas, where Joel Saurel lives. M. Saurel's predecessors took the name Saint Damien for the domaine. Domaine St. Damien's cuvées of Gigondas have become the reference for classic full-bodied yet fine Gigondas, with consistent and high scores for every vintage.
